Django

The trailer for Django unchained uses many narrative techniques typical of Hollywood western using propps character theory their is a clear hero which is Django he has a clear goal to save his wife which is the heroine of the trailer. The introduction of Calvin Candie shows that he is a clear villain of the trailer as he owns Djangos wife as a slave

The trailer is full of Barthes' enigma and action codes. These are designed to draw the audience in and encourage them to watch the whole film to resolve their questions such as why Djangos wife got separated from him. The major enigma codes the audience will ask would be if Django finds his wife and if he dies or not. Their are many action codes one is when Django brings out his gun another is when he is whipping someone.

The film's narrative is clearly introduced in the trailer and follows Todorov's theory of equilibrium. The state of balance is the character Django who is carrying on with his life as a slave this was the state of balance at the time. The introduction of Dr. King Schultz causes a disequilibrium as he comes and buys Django and tells him he will free him after killing wanted people and also will help him find his wife. The new equilibrium is not shown in the trailer which is obvious as its not quite clear that everything will work out for Django.
